"I attended grades K-2 at Jefferson E.S. before moving onto Mt. View E.S. Guy Bauman was in each of those K-2 classes. He was one of my first school friends. In kindergarten, we played "Sky King" on the swings which I see are still located in the same place on that kindergarten playground! His father was a photographer at the Riverside Press/Enterprise and sometimes included Guy and his classmates in various human interest photos- one from a rainy day that I remember well. My dad worked at the Press and we would see each other at the annual picnics. He was always such a nice guy! I remember reading his name among the deceased at our 20 yr. reunion, but never knew the circumstances of his death until 2 yrs. ago. I was working as a teacher-on-assignment for the Inland Empire Consortium for Int'l. Studies and drove out to the Fuller ton Art Museum at the Cal State San Bernardino campus. The interim curator was Mr. Fox, who had taught art at both Sierra and Ramona. He told me that Guy had worked as an art historian/curator at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and that Guy died of AIDs. As I look back at our '70 school annual, I don't see his photo. What happened to Guy during our sr. year?"
Sandra Schmidt Boe <Boesand#aol.com>, 2/16/2001"... Guy Bauman was actually quite famous in the art world when he died, and clearly his illness cut short a very promising career (he was only 38 when he died). Here is a passage from the Village Voice, Dec. 5, 1995:
"I'm remembering Duncan Stalker (AIDS, 1991) arranging, in the late stages of his own illness, a memorial for his dead boyfriend, Guy Bauman (AIDS, 1990), and the cold shock that overtook a room full of well-inured people when the civilized hush of the Frick Collection's atrium was suddenly broken by Duncan's raw, animal cries.""Here is his obit from the New York Times February 28, 1990:
"Guy Caesar Bauman, an art historian and assistant curator in the European paintings department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, died of AIDS at his home on Sunday. He was 38 years old and lived in Manhattan."Another Bauman postcript: the note you have on the Deceased Alumni Page asks where Guy was in senior year. He was an exchange student in Holland, where I assume he might have picked up his interest in Flemish art."
"Mr. Bauman's specialty was North European painting in the Renaissance, and he wrote many exhibition catalogue entries and articles for publications of the Metropolitan, where he was also a research assistant. He was an organizer of the museum's Ingres exhibition last year.
"Before joining the Metropolitan in 1982, Mr. Bauman was a lecturer and curatorial assistant for three years at the Frick Collection, where he helped organize three exhibitions. He studied at the University of California at Riverside and at Princeton University. His companion was Duncan Stalker. Mr. Bauman is survived by his parents, Fred and Vivian Bauman, of Riverside, Calif., and two brothers, Marc, of Los Angeles, and David, of Riverside."
Matt Potter <reader#home.com>, 5/14/2001"Guy Bauman was one of the gentlest men I have ever known. I met him in the fall of 1974 when we were both starting our graduate studies at Princeton University. He was enrolled in art history and I, in engineering and economics. Our backgrounds were so different, yet we had a lot in common and quickly became close friends! He opened my eyes to the world of fine arts. In his room at the New Graduate College there was a beautiful black-and-white photograph taken by his father (Fred?) showing a very big tree, possibly a redwood, which I always found amazing. Guy had a wonderful sense of humor and very inquisitive eyes. Being from Riverside, California, he very much liked the changes that the seasons brought about. Through him I met a number of his friends: Nancy Prendergast, Andreas Mandelis, Nina Athanassoglou, Kaye van Valkenburg, Maria Elena Puente Diez and, later, Duncan Stalker. Our lives went separate ways. I left Princeton. I didn't see him for many years until the mid-1980's, when I found out that he was a curator at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. I visited him and Duncan Stalker a few times. He took me to the Metropolitan Museum and to the Frick Collection, where he had previously worked. He was very proud of his exhibitions, his research and his publications. And then, I found out that he was sick. We had a number of "heavy" conversations. When he got really sick, Duncan, whose own health was already diminishing, lovingly transformed their apartment in the Upper East Side so that Guy would not have to spend his last days in a hospital. The last time I saw him alive, he could barely talk: I asked him if I could do anything for him and he said the only thing he wanted was for someone to massage his feet. Guy was a gentle soul. May he rest in peace."

"I left Calif. in 1969, and we [Bonnie and I] kept in touch for a few years. I know she did marry, when I came back home to visit in the early 70ies we caught up and I met her son. Cute little red haired boy. I don't remember her married name, and she was already divorced. My mother still lives in Riverside and as I recall someone she worked with passed the news onto her of Bonnie shortly after. I don't know if you remember her but she was a very funny girl. Always happy, her and I used to ride around in her little Sunbeam. It would konk out on us and we'd have to jump out and pound on the battery. I can still remember that.... funny, how silly things stick with you. I can still picture her little hands pounding on that battery."
Cheryl Turner (Giunta) <cheryl927#hotmail.com>, 2/16/2001"Bonnie Brown was a friend I made in junior high. She hosted several slumber parties which were wild and crazy! Quite a few pranks were pulled! I do remember Cheryl Turner, Shelly Moller, Martha Rehnke, Debbie Dubel, Sharon Ramey, Jay Qualls, others... at these parties. I visited Bonnie in San Francisco about 2-4 yrs after high school. Her mother had moved there. We had a great time wandering the city during the height of the Haight-Ashbury era! I heard she was murdered and that it was drug-related."

"Steve Hammarlund went to Poly, not Ramona. He was a pediatrician, with a practice in Laguna. He died of AIDS.
"We were in the same classes at Chemawa. He was always seated in front of me (HAM, HAN). He was quick and funny. We had lots of laughs together. During our sophomore years, we both moved out to Poppy Hill (Victoria and McAllister neighborhood). I remember having several conversations with him about the virtues of Poly vs. Ramona. I remember that he felt Poly had a higher level of academics than Ramona. His father was a vet and the one our family went to. My dad took our dogs and cats to him and also saw him walking the neighborhood occasionally while Steve was sick. This is how I know the information."
Christine Hansen <scolatti#yahoo.com>, 3/11/2001 - 3/19/2001"I knew Steve graduated from Poly, but he went to Ramona for his sophomore year. I also recall talking with him at our 20 year reunion, and his photo was in the memory book from that year. I remember him as a cheerleader on the B squad in our sophomore year." (Like some of us, Steve attended several high schools, and although not technically a graduate of Ramona, is considered an alumni.)

"Mike Hunt (Charles Michael Hunt) was born on February 18 1952, he and I went to Riverside Christian Day School from Kindergarten till 7th grade where we both went to Sierra Jr. High School, then on to Ramona. He was one of my best friends.. We went to RCC together for 3 semesters when I moved to San Fernando Valley and went to college there.
"He moved to Watsonville where he met the woman of his dreams, Tess, they were married a few years later, they had no kids. He went to work for TRW in their computer/MIS department, that dealt with Government Contracts Satellite division (I think) doing programming on UNIX based systems. He was an avid health nut and worked out every day, built like an ox. He loved Model airplanes, poetry, and driving his sports cars, and Ninja Motorcycles, with his wife. She is a college administrator near a beautiful home built on a hill looking into the bay at Aptos, CA.
"Mike and I are a day apart on our birthdays. Mine the 17th of Feb., his the 18th. We used to call each other every year and say happy birthday old man. The year he died we missed each other because he went skiing. He died four years ago in 1996 two days after his birthday. He was not feeling well about 10 days before it happened. He had complained of sever chest pains, went to the hospital, they ran many of the normal heart tests and found nothing. He went to his family doctor who said it may have been (???? don't remember) took a few more tests, and said call him in a few days because Mike wanted to go snow skiing for his birthday that weekend. Mike called and said he was feeling better and the doc said it was OK to go. Tess and Mike had a great weekend together, came home tired but feeling AUK. The next day at work Mike called his mom, Bess still living in Riverside at the time, and spoke to her for about two hours, said he felt bad and was going to go to the TRW gym at work and work it out...... A worker friend came in to check on him, and he was just lying down to do his meditation cool down after his work out. She said she was going to leave soon and asked him if he was AUK. He said fine. She went to leave about 5 minutes later, and he did not respond to her farewell for the day. The autopsy said he had a rare problem in his heart in a little blood vessel, that only a very expensive difficult test would have shown.
"His date of death was Feb. 20th 1996.
"Speaking of mortality... and other thought provoking topics pondering life's situations. Mike grew up not knowing his real father, His mom was a nurse in Korea, during the war and his father was killed in action, never to marry his mom. His mom later met and married a good man, and were married till he died when Mike and I were in college at RCC. He spent his whole life resenting his step dad, and when he got sick for about two weeks, just before he died of a heart attack, Mike suddenly realized he had a dad that he had wasted so much precious time with, that had raised him and loved him despite Mikes anger of not having " A REAL DAD". It hit Mike just before his step dad died and Mike was able to tell him how much he had meant to him. We all need to wake up and not only smell the roses, but make sure every day counts with those that we love. I always thought that it was so sad he found out really too late to really do much about it. Hope this is all something we can take to heart... many of us have been blessed so much, and take it for granted..."

VICKI JELLSEY KOZLOFF 12/27/1951 ~ 11/5/2007 Since you left us, November 5, we have had a lot of firsts; Thanksgiving, Christmas, and your birthday. It will be hard to get through them without you. We know you're with the Lord, and you've seen your dad and many others who have gone before you. You left so suddenly, (automobile accident), we didn't get to say goodbye. The world lost a good mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and wife. School children lost a good, imaginative teacher/counselor. You will be greatly missed, but we know you're in a far better place. You believed everyone had an appointed time to go. This was your time and we have to accept that. We Love You, Your Family

They say he was dead before he hit the floor, so it was quick. I kept in touch with Bob pretty well up until he died. He had a lot of problems but was one of the kindest people alive. "

He grew up in the grocer industry with his parents and grandparents owning and operating several Love’s Liquor Marts in and around the Southern California area until 1973. He graduated from Ramona High School in Riverside, California in 1970 and was even in the school choir.
"As a young adult, he had a son, Gary Love, with his wife Elaine Love, in 1974. He also cared for his two stepsons, David, and Mike Hull. He continued working in the grocery business at Stater Brothers for 20+ years, while simultaneously owning and operating his gardening business Love’s Lawn and Garden. He had a passion for plants and flowers and enjoyed watering, caring, and designing landscapes for himself and others. David had a deep love for animals and had many animals during his life including cats, dogs, and even a raccoon! He had a very generous heart and it always seemed to find its path to caring for others. He was extremely kind, honest, and reliable. If he said he would do something, you could count on him to follow through, always!
"David was determined and continued his work ethic by purchasing a piece of the supply chain for Mother’s Cookies. He operated the scheduling and deliveries of Mother’s cookies to the Lake Elsinore and Corona areas in Southern California. It was during these deliveries that he met his current wife, Patty Love. They were married and lived in California until 2012. David retired and they decided to make the move to Wichita, Kansas. He was always creative and loved working with his hands. He had developed an affinity for tile work. He enjoyed designing and installing tile work in his Riverside home as well in his Wichita home. I happened to find his registration of death while I was entering some other alumni deaths on the site and searching for some missing links. "GARY LEE MURRAY, born July 2, 1952, passed away unexpectedly, November 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Bertha Murray. He is survived by his father, William J. Murray; his sister, Vickie Zimmerman; and his brother, William Murray, Jr. Other remaining family members include Evelyn Murray, Charles and Vera Murray, his aunts and uncle. He has numerous nieces and nephews.
"Gary was brilliant and excelled easily at anything he was interested in. In his youth, he was considered a child prodigy because of his mastery of any and all stringed instruments. For a time, he played his 5-stringed banjo semi-professionally. He was solving algebra problems before he was in kindergarten. His brain was so advanced that as a youth he would sit for a couple of days at a time in a dining room chair just thinking and lose several pounds of weight, much to his mother's dismay. He was so much smarter than everyone else that at age 12, he submitted a personal computer model to the school science fair. He won and even competed with his computer at the state level. His model never worked, but the design was so advanced that the judges declared him the winner for his yet unthought-of concept of a personal computer.
"He was the mastermind behind numerous practical jokes played on his sister's dates in high school. In his teens, he built his own 10-speed bike out of parts he manufactured himself. His model was so light and durable that he was sought after for building more like it. He loved hitching a ride with his bike up to Lake Arrowhead just so he could ride screaming down the mountain without touching his brakes once. He had great courage.
"Gary attended UC Riverside and also joined the U.S. Navy. He was a renowned stringed instrument maker and he was sought after by many willing to pay high dollars for his quality instruments. He devoted great energy and time to caring for his beloved dog, Fuhnman. He had a rapier wit that could be misunderstood by those with "normal" IQ's. He was a clever, thoughtful, and understanding man. He was much beloved by his sister, Vickie. He had many great qualities. Gary led a quiet life with a few close friends. He was well liked and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
"Services will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery where he will be buried with military honors, at 10:00 a.m. on December 29, 2015. A reception will be held at the family home at 1807 St. Lawrence, Riverside, immediately after the burial. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the VFW or The American Cancer Society. Questions can be answered by calling his father at 951-780-7117.

"I thought you might want to read my FB post I spoke about when I first learned that Gary had passed. I copied into this email below:
"My little brother passed away last night. It was sudden and presumably from a spider bite. Although he was in his 60's, these pictures reflect a happier time in his life. He was so darn smart he didn't know how to get along with the rest of us with normal IQ's. He was a loner and chose a road less traveled. His path was unrecognizable from the American dream we all talk about. We were close growing up. As adults we were estranged for valid reasons, but I always thought and hoped there would be that time we could sit down and talk about all that. Now he's gone. Facebook may seem like a very public place to speak of deeply personal thoughts, but I post this as a warning to all who would read these words. We are not guaranteed even the next breath. The time for reconcillation is now."Thank you Steve. Go ahead and post it. It was from my gut. Maybe it will help someone to reconcile with family or friends."

"How do I say good-bye to a life long friend? That's what I question. Ken and I go back to age 15 or 16 with a life full of memories, way too numerous to mention in a short service. There were good times and there were bad times, but the part that I will miss the most, is that Ken was always there for me with an open ear, a caring heart, genuine concern and understanding, and a touch of laughter, and reminder of better days. Ken was someone I always knew I could count on. His generosity went far beyond any human I know, and I feel grateful that God sent him to be my life long friend.
"When my first husband died, at age 24, Ken treated my son like he was his own. He came by a picked him up and helped by doing "those guy things with him". Five years ago, when I was sick, Ken was a listening and understanding ear who reassured me, when I wasn't so confident.
"Ken was generous and thoughtful. When my boyfriend and I visited from California, Ken had his car sitting at the train station, for our use for the week... You see, Ken was always thinking of someone else's need.
"And... Oh, we had our good times! When I was a young girl, we would be out cruisen in his car, and Ken, well, he was a tease. He would venture to drive to an area of town that wasn't permissible and could be dangerous. Then, he would make his car backfire under the bridge, and tell me, "Duck, they are shooting at us!" and I would fall for it every time. Ken would chuckle, and do it again the next time.
"We had so much fun as kids, and as adults, although we lived in different states, Ken was always my life long friend that I always knew would be there, whom I could count on. Ken, I'll forever miss you! Please save me a place in heaven!
"Love always and forever, Debbie Donato - Kelley"
Debbie Donato <BrnEys5678#aol.com>, 6/11/2005"Kenneth E. O'Bryan died May 23.
"Ken was born in South Bend, Ind. At age 4, he moved with his family to Riverside, Calif. As a boy, he attended Catholic schools, enjoyed raising and training hawks and other wild birds with his brother, Patrick, explored the orange groves near his home and went everywhere with his older siblings.
"As a young man, he married Lynn Gillen, and they had two children, Kimberly and Andy. He became very skilled in carpentry work and made a career of it. On weekends, he enjoyed relaxing and water skiing with his family and friends at the Colorado River.
"At age 24, he and his family relocated to Corvallis. In addition to carpentry, he started his own small business, Liquid Gold Apiaries, selling honey and working as a beekeeper.
"In 1985, he began working for Emery and Sons Construction Inc. in Stayton. Ken and the owner, Dale Emery, became and remained very close friends.
"Ken loved nature and being active outdoors. He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities such as riding ATVs with his son, Andy, about twice a month, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, white water rafting, camping, downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, snowboarding, bird watching, biking, jogging, and so on. He was always active outdoors no matter the weather or time of year.
"He also loved to travel. Nearly every weekend he was off exploring new locations such as Denali Park, Alaska, and beautiful rock formations in Arizona, visiting his brother, Patrick, in Baja, Mexico, snowmobiling the rim of Crater Lake, marveling at the wild wolves in Yellowstone National Park, canoeing in Shasta Lake, climbing Smith Rock, and so on.
"Another of his passions was his grandchildren, Kambria and Preston. On Jan. 4, 1999, he became a grandfather. Family and friends say that he loved to talk about his grandkids, telling everyone what they had said or done, and more importantly, what he had done with them. He loved taking his grandkids for hikes, to play in the water at Fern Ridge, to ride the inner tubes in the snow at Mount Hood, snowshoeing and for sleepovers at his house — they would debate over whose turn it was to stay at "Papa's." His grandson, Preston, shared in his interest of construction and together they would visit construction sites on weekends, where grandpa would show and tell him all about the heavy equipment.
"Ken will be remembered for all his countless acts of generosity and kindness he displayed toward family, friends and even complete strangers. Despite challenges, he remained positive and upbeat. He was a wonderful example of how to really live life by: keeping things simple yet truly savoring the adventures, showing kindness to all and always remaining curious.
"Ken was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C. O'Bryan in 1968.
"Survivors include his mother Evelyn O'Bryan; siblings, Patrick O'Bryan, Joe O'Bryan, Darlene Rentschler and Doug O'Bryan; daughter Kim O'Bryan-Heede; son Andy O'Bryan; grandchildren, Kambria and Preston Heede; and five nieces.
"A memorial service and celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11 at Northwest Hills Community Church, 3300 N.W. Walnut Blvd., Corvallis. The service will be followed with refreshments, where the remembrances and celebration of Ken's life can continue.

"My dear sister, Teresa Ann Skeith-Rice, passed away September 23, 2013, just before 11:00 pm. She had a surgery for esophageal cancer that was curative, but a series of nursing and medical errors led to her death 2 days before she was to go home. She was cremated, did not want a service or obituary, and her ashes were scattered in her favorite river in Montana.
"She lived in Spokane, and is survived by husband Randy Rice, two daughters Jessica Floyd and Jacqueline Victorious, and 7 grandchildren. She enjoyed her life to the fullest and lived for her kids. She was always one to do it her way and I will miss her spirit, her soul, her determination to go rogue, her fierce individualism, her non-conformity... But mostly I will miss her quick wit and laughter. The world just lost a true "one of a kind". My heart has a hole that will never be filled. Go love and hug your sisters tonight or tomorrow or the first chance you get. You never know which words may be your last to the ones you love. She will be missed terribly."
